‘I really enjoyed that!’ India batsman Shikhar Dhawan makes IPL history for Delhi Capitals
Oct 20, 2020
Shikhar Dhawan has become the first player in history to score back-to-back Indian Premier League hundreds.
The India batsman scored 101 not out from 58 balls during Delhi Capitals’ victory over Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, and 106 not out from 61 balls during Tuesday’s clash against Kings XI Punjab.
Dhawan said: ‘I really enjoyed it today! I took the responsibility and kept on going after passing fifty.
‘It’s good that I’m scoring consistently because you get that confidence.’
Despite Dhawan’s heroics, Delhi Capitals slipped to a five-wicket defeat on Tuesday as Kings XI reignited their IPL campaign.
Dhawan contributed 106 of the Capitals’ score of 164-5 and Kings XI Punjab knocked off the runs with five wickets and six balls remaining, largely thanks to Nicholas Pooran’s destructive 53 from 28 balls.
On his team’s defeat, Dhawan said: ‘We are going to have a discussion and see where we can improve. Of course it is going to be a learning experience.
‘This is not going to put us down. We just need to learn our lessons and come back stronger.’
Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer, meanwhile, felt his side fell short with the bat despite Dhawan’s ton.
He said: ‘I feel we were 10 runs short. Skihar batted brilliantly, that is a positive.
‘But we can learn a lot from this game. The fielding wasn’t up the mark either so we need to come back stronger from this.’
