Mike Ashley finally agrees to refund Newcastle fans for games behind closed doors after ‘taking £7m since lockdown’
Oct 30, 2020
MIKE ASHLEY has FINALLY agreed to refund Newcastle season ticket holders for games they cannot watch.
The Magpies are the last Premier League club continuing to charge fans for games behind closed doors.
And furious supporters claimed the Toon owner had taken £7million since football returned without supporters in June.
But, better late than never, the club confirmed the Toon Army will start to be refunded from mid-December .
Season ticket holders on long-term deals can either take their payments forward to pay off next season, or claim a refund.
The first instalment in December will cover the first five Prem matches of the season, with the other two coming in the new year.
On the pitch, Jacob Murphy is the man of the moment after his late equaliser at Wolves on Sunday .
Having signed from Norwich for £17million in 2017, opportunities have been hard to come by and that was only his second ever Prem goal.
And the winger, 25, admits he had doubts about his Toon future under former boss Rafa Benitez .
After spending last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday , he said: “Things weren’t going well.
“I was thinking: ‘Is it ever going to happen for me?’
“But the Sheffield Wednesday loan was so vital.
"It gave me the confidence and I realised I could do this.
“I realised I wasn’t going to give up on this dream.
