What Ronaldo Told His Family Before He Scored Hat-trick Against Atletico Madrid
Yemi|March. 13, 2019
Cristiano Ronaldo repeatedly told his close family and friends that he would score a hat-trick and Juventus would progress in the Champions League - BEFORE making it a reality.
Ronaldo was left embarrassed in the first leg as Juventus went down 2 - 0 at Atletico Madrid, with the Portuguese superstar insulted and jeered by the home fans.
But Ronaldo had the last laugh last night as he scored two powerful headers and cooly converted a late penalty to ensure Juventus made the last eight.
The 34-year-old has won three successive Champions League trophies with Real Madrid but was facing an early exit going into the second leg with Atletico.
But Ronaldo was so confident of going through that he actually told those close to him he would score a hat-trick with Juventus progressing.
That is the claim from Spanish sports paper Marca, who saw the forward leave Real Madrid last summer in a £105million deal.
And after the game, Ronaldo allowed himself to publicly enjoy his new side stunning the football world.
“It had to be a really special night and it was,” he said.
“If we continue like this, we have not won yet but we have reasons to be proud and we are on the right way.
“That's why Juventus signed me and I tried to do my best job.
“It's a magical night. It was a very difficult team to play but we showed that we were a very big team.
“We proceed step by step, we will see.”
Juventus manager Max Allegri was more of a realist, admitting his side’s performance was far from perfect despite the 3 - 2 aggregate win.
“We weren’t perfect, but we did do well to remain concentrated,” he said.
“There was the risk of taking a hysterical approach to the game, as the idea of the comeback had been talked about so much, but we had 95 minutes to get the job done.
“We did very well and the team deserve congratulations.
