Iranian woman sentenced to 1 year in prison for removing her headscarf

A 32-year-old Iranian woman, Vida Movahed, has been sentenced to one year in prison after she removed her headscarf in a protest in 2017.
Movahed's lawyer revealed that she was was sentenced for encouraging public corruption and was ever since tagged the Girl of Enghelab.
However, her counsel on Sunday, April 14, said she is on a pardon list but the release procedures are still ongoing.
While there was no official comment, since verdicts are often not publicized, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei grants pardons mostly on public holidays.
Not less than 29 women were detained for similar offenses in 2018 year with three of them sentenced two years in prison and others said to be out of Iran.

Three have reportedly been sentenced to two years in prison and some others are believed to have left the country. Normally, such offences attract about two month-long jail term and a fine of about $25.
According to Aledeh, his daughter was asked to remove her hijab before she would be allowed into the hall.
