- Majority Leader Aden Duale told Francis Atwoli to respect his age and stop making reckless statements
- Kericho senator Aaron Cheruyot asked the COTU boss to tell them how he will stop Ruto from vying in 2022
- Atwoli had indicated the DP will not be elected president in 2022 because his name will not be on the ballot
Claims by the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli that Deputy President William Ruto's name will not be on the ballot come 2022 have not gone down well with a section of Jubilee party leaders.
Led by the National Assembly's majority leader, Aden Duale, the politicians perceived to be members of the team Tanga Tanga faction of the ruling party questioned Atwoli's state of mind and wondered what he could be planning to do to stop Ruto from vying.
The Tanga Tanga brigade which is associated with the DP took to social media to express their displeasure over the anti-Ruto remarks made by Atwoli, with some of them asking the COTU boss to come clean on what he meant.
"Atwoli is the age of my father. I will not insult him since that is not how I was raised. Respect your age! He (Atwoli) spews verbal diarrhea that leaves even a three-year-old wonder. Be your age. Stop embarrassing yourself," Duale tweeted on Saturday, April 13.
Kericho senator, Aaron Cheruyot, on his part insinuated Atwoli could be plotting to get rid of the DP, alleging that the firebrand trade unionist once uttered similar words against a political rival who later died.
"I want to ask you Atwoli, when speaking in Mombasa where you said Ruto will not be on the ballot in 2022, we want you to tell us, are you planning to kill him (Ruto) or what are you up to?" the senator posed in Swahili.
The COTU leader who was speaking in Lamu during a fundraiser for women's sacco had indicated the current DP's name would not appear in any of the ballot papers, claiming his words were not tongue in cheek utterances but a signal from the creator of heaven and earth.
"I want you to write this down, in 2022 we will got into an election to elect the president and it will be a very peaceful election because we shall have changed the Constitution. We shall elect the president, deputy president, prime minister and deputy prime minister.
"For all those you will elect, I want to tell you that the name of William Samoei Ruto will not be there, you can take that to the bank for free, those are not my words but words from the creator of heaven and earth," he said.
