Mudavadi: Why I Can't Work With Ruto
Sept. 09, 2019
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has ruled out the possibility of teaming up with William Ruto after the DP asked him for support in 2022. Mudavadi who has also declared his interest in the presidency accused Ruto of being responsible for the many problems Kenya is facing.
Speaking at Nairobi PAG Church in Kibra constituency on Sunday, September 8, the former deputy prime minister alleged the DP and the Jubilee government had plunged the country into a financial crisis and therefore he cannot consider an invitation to work with him.
“He (Ruto) has asked me to support his 2022 presidential bid yet he is the same man who has been in the forefront in subjecting our country to debts. Now he is seeking my support, which implies that I should be part of this problem. That is not possible,” the ANC leader said.
The proposed political pact between Ruto and Mudavadi was also rejected by the ANC leader's allies even as he maintained he will not play second fiddle to anyone.
“Mudavadi cannot play second fiddle to Ruto and similarly the DP cannot be anyone’s running mate for a third time, because the Constitution does not allow. So ideally the notion of a Ruto-Mudavadi pact is neither workable nor attractive,” argued Lugari MP Ayub Savula.
The DP who was in Western Kenya on Saturday extended an olive branch to Mudavadi asking him to back his 2022 presidential bid.
"We unsuccessfully campaigned together (with Musalia) for Raila in 2007. We were basically his handlers but things did not work out.Today, I want to ask Musalia to join us so that we can work," Ruto said in Sabatia constituency in Vihiga county, Mudavadi's home turf.
