Exposed: Money Spend By Ukweli Party Candidate In Kibra Campaigns

Nov. 08, 2019

Renowned activist and socio-political commentator Boniface Mwangi has come out to disclose the amount of money his Ukweli Party candidate Editar Ochieng spent in her bid for the Kibra parliamentary seat.
In a tweet on Friday, Mwangi revealed that Ochieng spent Sh900,000 during the campaigns for the position left vacant following the death of area immediate MP Ken Okoth in July.
The aspirant emerged a distant sixth with 59 votes in a race that was won by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Imran Okoth who garnered 24,636 votes.
"Thank you Kibra for your votes to Ukweli party's Editar. She ran a good race and came in 6 out 24 candidates. There is no second place in politics but we all know change is a process. Her entire campaign budget was Sh1.2 million and we managed to raise and spend Sh900,000. Thanks," Mwangi posted.
Ochieng, who is also a human rights activist, styled herself as a resident and vied on a platform of bringing change to the people of Kibra by bringing 'fresh leadership'.
"We are re-imagining our politics by getting people in power who have a vision, have integrity, and represent change," read a post on Ukweli Party's official Twitter handle.
Mwangi, who is Ukweli party leader, vied for Starehe parliamentary seat in 2017 polls but was defeated by Charles Kanyi alias Jaguar.
He had budgeted to spend Sh10 million but only managed to raise Sh5,278,844 from well-wishers.
