Van Dijk-We Have 90 Minutes To Come Back.
Feb. 19, 2020
Virgil van Dijk believes that Liverpool can still come back after falling behind at the halfway stage of their Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano last night in Madrid.
Atletico Madrid established a 1-0 advantage in the first leg at Estadio Metropolitano last night through a fourth-minute goal by Saul Niguez.
Madrid now remain unbeaten in 13 home games in the Champions League knockout stages under coach Diego Simeone.
Liverpool had most of the possession but were unable to translate that dominance of the ball into clear chances against the home side.
They will however have an opportunity to put that right at Anfield in three weeks’ time and Van Dijk looked optimistically towards the second leg.
The man of the match was Atletico's midfielder Thomas Partey who worked tirelesly for his team defensively. Diego Simeone was excited by his team's performance and stated that the best club in the world arrived at Madrid and they beat them.
Since the start of last season, Liverpool have lost six of their ten away games in the Champions League. No side has lost more away from home in the competition in this time.
