UEFA President Dismisses Claims Premier League Will Be 'Handed To Liverpool' Before Season Completion

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has set the record straight on claims Liverpool could be handed the Premier League title amid the coronavirus pandemic.
UEFA have committed to getting the domestic season finished by June 30 after the Premier League and other top-flight European leagues were suspended.
The governing body drew up plans at an emergency meeting on Tuesday including delaying the European Championship until 2021.
The current state of limbo had seen suggestions the Premier League could be halted now with Liverpool - 25 points clear at the top and just two wins away from wrapping up the title - handed the title.
But Ceferin has branded that suggestion as "fake news" and insisted that was never the advice from UEFA given the problems it would cause regarding European qualification and relegation places.
“I’ve saw and heard some again fake news that Uefa will advise leagues to finish the championships now and decide that the winners are the ones who are number one now,” Ceferin said.
“I can say that it’s not true. Our goal is to finish the leagues and we didn’t recommend anything like that to any association or any league.”
In Spain, the title race is much tighter with Barcelona just two points clear of Real Madrid.
The battle for the top spot is also set to go down to the wire in other leagues around the continent.
