Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip's father is recuperating at the Nanyuki Cottage Hospital after he was shot by a police officer.
Loitiptip disclosed that his father, David Kiwaka, was shot in the leg by an officer attached to Doldol Police Station in Laikipia County.
Kiwaka was reportedly accused of not wearing a face mask when the incident occurred on Sunday, May 17.
"My father, David Kiwaka, has been shot in the leg and brutally injured by police officers at Doldol Police Station, Laikipia County. He has been rushed to Nanyuki Cottage," stated the senator.
The angered senator called for speedy investigations into the matter to bring the officer responsible for the shooting arrested.
"I am currently in Nanyuki pursuing the matter. Justice must prevail for my father. That's why I am calling for speedy investigations and for the officer involved to be arrested," he added.
The information was first shared to the public by Sonko's daughter Saumu Mbuvi, wife to Loitiptip, through a social media post where she stated that her father-in-law had been shot by a police officer.
Saumu disclosed that the incident occurred in broad daylight as the officers attempted to arrest him.
“They shot my father-in-law today, yet it was still daytime! Police brutality must stop…Every day we get cases of them shooting innocent citizens and nothing is being done…it is time this ends.
"Police brutality must and should stop! We are tired. Stop taking advantage of your power to intimidate innocent citizens,” stated Saumu Mbuvi.
High-ranking officials and their kin have recently found themselves on the wrong side of the law since President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the curfew.
Godwin Kilele, a member of the Taita Taveta county assembly for Sagalla ward, was arrested for flouting the given national safety directives on Covid-19 on Thursday, April 19. He was arrested for not wearing a face mask while in public
