Emirates Increases Cargo Flights to Nairobi
Oct 20, 2020
Emirates airline has increased its weekly cargo flights in Nairobi to meet the high demand for freight services from horticulture exporters. The middle eastern airline now has 10 weekly cargo flights from Kenya’s main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The additional flights provide a boost to local farmers who sell their produce in international markets. Furthermore, increased exports support Kenya’s economic recovery.
Most airlines have repurposed their planes from being passenger planes to cargo planes since the onset of the COVID19 pandemic, due to the massive drop in passenger aviation.
Emirates airline is one of the carriers that quickly shifted focus to freight services, expanding its network of cargo flights from 35 destinations in March to 130 destinations in October 2020.
“Emirates SkyCargo has ensured that adequate cargo capacity remains available on its wide body aircraft during the Covid-19 pandemic for the transport of urgent medical supplies as well as food items,” said the airline.
