Things are getting thick for Deputy President William Ruto ahead of his weekend planned visit of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s home turf, as rejection mounts from a section of leaders from the region.
Spearheaded by Jubilee Party Vice-chairman David Murathe, the leaders questioned the DP’s latest repeated tours of the larger Mt Kenya region.
The former Gatanga law-maker poked holes into the visits and maintained that the DP was on a mission to radicalize youths in the region.
“We feel that the Deputy President is on a radicalization mission in Mt Kenya and we are cautioning our people,” Murathe said.
“We used to have Mungiki in Central region… Now when you bring this narrative of the ‘haves and haves not’, that was the Mungiki philosophy…”
He expressed his skepticism about the DP’s empowerment moves in Mount Kenya, stating that whatever he takes to the region is also needed in the Rift valley.
“Whatever we are seeing him doing in the Mt Kenya region, he should be doing that in the Rift Valley and we see it. There is something which is not adding up about the script that they are running up in the Mt Kenya region.”
The Jubilee vice-chairman also cautioned against Ruto’s selective visit of the region in the company of leaders drawn from other parts.
“If it’s something that will benefit our women and the youth, why don’t you go with the leadership of that particular constituency?”
He was talking ahead of the DP’s planned weekend tour of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region. Ruto is expected to conduct strings of meetings in Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi counties from Friday to Sunday.
This comes just days after the DP was accused of abandoning their sworn agenda for early campaigns during the launch BBI report by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
