Makau Mutua says Ruto may resign to spearhead anti-BBI campaign: "He's run out of options"
Dec 1, 2020
Kenyan-American professor Makau Mutua has said Deputy President William Ruto may resign to spearhead anti-Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) campaign arguing the second in command had run out of options.
The second-generation scholar of the third world approaches to international law said the DP may use law 35 in the 48 laws of power (master the art of timing) by Robert Greene and take charge of a no campaign against the 2020 Constitutional amendment Bill.
"Don’t be surprised if @WilliamsRuto abruptly resigns and takes charge of the teetering anti-BBI no campaign. He’s run out of options. Law 35 of the laws of power - master the art of timing," he tweeted on Monday, November 30.
Mutua said it would political suicide for Ruto to join the BBI bandwagon as he will become an "errand boy" for former prime minister Raila Odinga who is one of the chief proponents of BBI.
The newspaper columnist insisted there was nothing like a non-contested referendum that Ruto was vouching for in a democratic society.
"It’s an illogical impossibility. A legal, philosophical, and practical nullity. DP @WilliamsRuto must stop selling this KANU-era political nonsense. He should either support, or oppose BBI. There are no shortcuts," he said.
The former Eldoret North Member of Parliament has said it would be so hard for him to be cornered by BBI proponents who were pushing for a contested process.
