COVID-19: Oyo Government Directs Waste Collectors to Separate Hospital Refuse from Household Waste
The Oyo state government said it has reached a conclusion with the waste collectors in the state to treat refuse from hospitals especially waste from isolation centers as hazardous waste and dispose of it with extreme care.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Kehinde Ayoola disclosed this in a chat with Noble FM's correspondent, Micheal Oladejo, this Tuesday.
The commissioner hinted that in order to break the chain of the virus and avoid community infection, hospital waste will no longer be disposed alongside household waste, rather the two will be separated from the outset.
He, further revealed that the Ministry has deployed officials of the State environmental services to enforce compliance with the directives given by the state COVID-19 Task Force across markets in Oyo state pending the time when the fumigation becomes feasible.
The commissioner, however, noted that the state government will in due course brief the public on measures put in place to prevent flooding and other natural disasters that come with it as a heavy rains approach.
