Sallah Celebrations: Niger govt sacks three Imams over violation of rules for conducting Eid Prayers.

The Niger State Government has sacked three Imams from their posts over alleged violation of the rules put in place by the government for the conduct of Eid prayers during the Ramadan festivities in the state.
The state Director-General, Religious Affairs, Dr. Umar Faruq Abdullahi, who made the announcement in a press statement said Mallam Abdullahi Ndakogi of Batagi village under Bida Emirate has been removed for holding an illegal congregational Eid prayer in Batagi Village.
In the statement signed by the Personal Assistance to the DG on Media, Mustapha Tauheed, it said, “Ndakogi has been stripped of his title as the Imam Ratibi of Batagi and has been replaced as at the time”.
It also stated that Mallam Muhammad Idris of Bosso Estate has equally been suspended for violating the rules set by the State Government on Tarawih and Tahajjud prayers.
According to the DG, “the clerics have been directed to hand over to his Na’eebi.”
The statement reads, “One Mallam Awwal Yusuf from Kontagora Emirate who used inciting words in his Eid sermon has also been suspended from any public preaching for one year.”
“He must write a letter of undertaking to make peace and also apologize to the government, Kontagora emirate and the general public even though he has pleaded for mercy and claimed ignorance of his act. However, ignorance of the law is not an excuse”.
