Senator Gyang decries government neglect of displaced persons in Plateau
Jun 4, 2020
The Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence, and Senator representing Plateau North Constituency, Barrister I.D Gyang, has decried what he called “total neglect of communities displaced by violent attacks in the recent times in the State.”
Making his feelings known when he paid visits to Miango in the Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa local government area and a Mission school of the renowned CAPRO Gospel Ministry in Gana Roop, Barkin Ladi local government area, Senator Gyang observed that while the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs had embarked on massive reconstruction of 500 two Bedroom Housing Units to house communities displaced by attacks of bandits in the North West and North East, communities in Plateau North that have been in the eye of the storm of mass killings, displacement and homelessness for decades have not benefited from the government’s resettlement and reconstruction programme.
The Senator lamented that his constituents were left to fend for themselves without any help from government for a very long time.
He called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to reach out to Plateau North with the Housing Project to resettle and house IDPs in the numerous displaced communities.
According to the Senator, such project would allay the people’s feelings of perceived neglect by the government.
