Lawmaker raises alarm over incessant killings in Imo community
Jun 5, 2020
The member representing Ihitte-Uboma State constituency in Imo House of Assembly, Michael Onyemaechi Njoku has expressed concern over the spate of killings in a particular community, Lowa in the LGA.
Onyemaechi in a motion on Thursday during the plenary urged the security agents in the state to intensify efforts in curbing insecurity both in the LGA and the state at large.
He regretted that similar incidents had occurred in same Lowa community where a woman was butchered by unidentified persons in the bush.
According to him, “my people cannot sleep again with their two eyes closed. Just yesterday, a woman was killed by unknown assassins while she was farming. This is not the first time, not the second time nor the third time this is happening in Lowa community.
“On the 19th of March, a woman was strangled in her farm. Since this year, we have had three cases of killing in Lowa community and we are wondering what could be the cause.
“I don’t want to believe it is linked to Fulani herdsmen because the unfortunate incident keeps recurring in the same Lowa community.
“As I speak, I am going to the bereaved family to commensurate with them. This is unacceptable. Our security agents should rise up to the occasion. They are not doing much to protect the lives and property as they swore to do so. My people cannot continue to die like fowls. Enough is enough!”
