JUST IN: Ajimobi Finally Laid To Rest In Ibadan Amid Heavy Security [Photos]

The remains of former Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, aged 70, have finally been laid to rest in Ibadan on Sunday at 10:05am amidst heavy security.
The late Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress was buried according to Islamic rites at his 6th Avenue, Yemoja Street, Oluyole Estate residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
It was reported that the preferred site of burial by the Ajimobi family, was not approved by the Oyo State Government on the ground that there is litigation on the property.

According to sources close to the family, “the burial of former governor had been delayed by what the family alleged as “impediments placed by the state government to the burial plans by the family.”
A close source of the late acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) disclosed that the family had made plans for the burial the day after the death of their patriarch and was said to have got in touch with the state government for necessary burial approval but alleged that the family rebuffed.
Reactin to the allegation in a statement released on Saturday, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, disclosed that the state government was willing to grant a waiver to the family for Senator Ajimobi to be buried at his Oluyole residence, but the family insisted on the Agodi GRA.
“The rumour, which is being spread to give the state government a bad name and to play undue politics with the dead, initially came by the way of social media gossip, which gained traction to attract the attention of traditional media outfits.
The late politician, who was confirmed dead at a Lagos-based hospital was reportedly buried in strict compliance with the the COVID-19 protocols.
Less than 20 people, including wife of the former governor, Chief Florence Ajimobi, and other members of his immediate family, were in attendance.
Fierce looking armed policemen were strategically positioned at the residence of the deceased, restricting movements in and out of the neighbourhood as the burial ceremony was held without Party faithful and other loyalists of the late politician.
