The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has distanced itself from the allegation that an official of the command shot a member of the proscribed National Union of Road Transport Workers in Iseyin, Oyo State, on Friday.
A customs officer was reported to have shot an executive member of the NURTW, Lateef Aboki, at the Iseyin-Moniya park in Iseyin.
In a reaction to the incident, the Public Relations Officers of the command, Abdulahi Abiola, said the officers involved in the incident were from the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A.
He said, “Immediately the news of the incident reached us, the Comptroller of the command, Mrs Uche Ngozi, directed the residential officers in Iseyin to take charge.
“We want to state categorically that the officers involved in the incident are not from our command; they are officers from the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A.
“We have yet to come up with an official statement until when we are properly briefed about the incident.
“We didn’t have any problem with the people of Iseyin and Oyo State at large. We are in harmony with the people and we appreciate the efforts of the Nigeria Police towards ensuring normalcy.”
